Club Events 2023

On 12th January Chris Cook gave an educational talk on wildlife in the Thames estuary

On the 9th February James Gray explained the benefits of the junk rig

On the 1st and 2nd of April club members demonstrated their safety boat skills

The first dinghy race of the season took place on the 9th April in sunshine and light winds

This was as close to the water as the midweek club got due to strong easterlies on the 18th April

On the 7th May conditions were perfect for an exciting race around the club moorings

On the 14th May the cruisers drifted to Canvey and back in near windless conditions

On the 27th May Gravesend sea cadets were given a taster session on the club dinghies

Six laps of competitive racing on the 10th June

On the 15th June, Aggie made her last GSC trip downriver to Benfleet

On the 25th June guests and members enjoyed the warm weather and strong winds

On the 8th July the club cruisers set off downriver to compete for the largest club trophy

On the 16th July some great food was laid on after the sailing by the social team  

On the 30th July there was a very close race in challenging conditions

On the 26th and 27th of August, the cruiser fleet made their annual pilgrimage to Chatham

On the 7th September, a small group enjoyed some lunch in a sunny Holehaven Creek

On the 17th September, our less experienced dinghy sailors went racing

On the 1st October, we named our new safety boat after the club's first lady commodore

On the 12th October, our guest speaker gave a fascinating talk on the Medway

On the 21st October, there was a huge turn-out to prepare the club for the winter

On the 4th November, The club ran a successful fundraiser in aid of the RNLI

On the 10th December, the club celebrated the festive period

On the 21st January the club revived the tradition of holding a Burns night in memory of the Scottish poet

On the 9th March Geoff Honey applied the RYA racing rules to the start of last year's regatta

General knowledge was thoroughly tested by our visiting quiz masters on the 1st April

On the 9th April the mayor joined us to celebrate the start of the new season

On the 22nd April, conditions were perfect for taking our guests out on the water 

On the 13th May all the Wayfarers took part in a very chilled Discover Sailing

On the 17th May we headed to Greenhithe and moored up for some lunch in the sun

Ideal conditions for a very competitive downriver cruiser race on the 28th May

On the 11th June, two boats finished this long distance race with time to spare

On the 17th and 18th of June, the level 2 trainees were put through their paces 

On the 27th June a small fleet raced in ideal conditions

On the 11th July the cruisers headed upriver in strong south westerlies

On the 23rd July we held our first event for members with level 2 who are new to racing

On the 6th August, strong south westerlies made for a lively afternoon race 

On the 2nd September, conditions were perfect for the penultimate race of the season

On the 16th September, the club held it's most successful taster session to date

On the 23rd September, the dinghies competed in the yearly endurance race

On the 1st October, the dinghy sailors lined up for the last race of the season

On the 14th and 15th October, we ran an advanced course for our dinghy sailors

On the 28th October, The weather was kind as we lifted the boats into the yard

On the 9th November, we learnt that there were quite a few ways to measure a ship

On the 14th December, Cliff shared advice on how to use our VHF radios

On the 13th January the PLA promoted the grants awarded to Gravesend watersports clubs

The cruisers wait patiently to be returned to the water on the 24th March

On the 8th April dinghies and safety equipment were checked and cleaned in preparation for the season

Four cruisers competed in the first race of the cruiser series on the 15th April

On the 29th of April the weather improved for a competitive race downriver

On the 13th May we celebrated the King's coronation in GSC style with a mighty fine spread

On the 20th May the stamina of the dinghy sailors was tested in a long race in strong winds

On the 3rd and 4th of June all the trainees passed their start sailing course 

On the 12th June heavy traffic on the river as we raced in the vicinity of the club

On the 24th of June, only one yacht finished as after a promising start the wind died completely 

On the 2nd July after a hearty breakfast, the dinghies raced in challenging conditions

On the 16th July we managed to get numerous guests onto the water despite strong winds

On the 27th July the main contenders competed in the last evening race 

On the 19th and 20th August, there were three exciting dinghy races at the club 

On the 3rd September, the club was buzzing with activity in the sunshine

On the 17th September, conditions were perfect for the last series race of the year

On the 30th September, the GSC flotilla sailed to sunny Greenhithe

On the 11th October, there were ideal conditions for a sail to Erith

On the 14th October, the social committee held there first event of the winter

On the 4th November all trainees received their certificates after passing the RYA course

On the 25th November, The club held it's annual prize giving evening at the 3 Daws
