About Gravesend Sailing Club

For more detailed information on the various topics please use the menus on the left.

We sail on the tidal Thames, and members are free to go sailing at any time (subject to the tide). There is a varied racing programme over the season, and some organised cruises.

We run a number of RYA-approved training courses, primarily for beginners and improvers.

We run a variety of social events, from meals and barbeques to talks and dances.

Cadet Section
We have an active Cadet Section, with some specific sailing and social events organised for them.
We also have links with the Gravesend Sea Cadets, who sail from the Club and elsewhere. They also provide other activities from their base in Gravesend, including a band.

We have about 250 members of all ages. Membership is open to all, and you do not need to own a boat to join.
We are very much a 'self-help' Club; virtually every task around the Club is carried out by members.

The Clubhouse is open to members at all times, and has a licensed bar. There is a small galley which is generally available to members. There are bunks for those wishing to stay overnight, showers and changing rooms, and a library of sailing books. Most Social events are held in the Clubhouse.

Local Links
The Clubhouse is used for meetings by a number of local organisations, including the Thames & Medway Canal Association and the Inland Waterways Association.
We also work closely with the RNLI.
We are a member of the North Kent Yachting Association, and are affiliated to the Royal Yachting Association.

Gravesend Sailing Club was established in 1894, and moved to its present site in 1906. We believe it is now the oldest-established Sailing Club on the Lower Thames.
