I can't post to the Forums
You must be registered before you can post to any of the forums. If you have not done so, click on 'Sign Up' underneath the login boxes.
Once you have registered (including responding to the verification email) you have to log in before you post.

When registering, what is the 'Display Name'? and the 'Login Name'?
The 'display name' is a name (unique on the site) which identifies you to other members. On a site like this it will hopefully be something which will identify you to other GSC members - a contraction of your real name, or your boat name, for example.
The 'login Name' (or 'User Name') , is what you enter when logging in. Please choose something that is straightforward to type in accurately, since you will have to enter it each time you log on to the website!
The Display Name and Login Name need not be the same.

What happens after I've registered?
You will be sent a confirmation email, so its important that the email address you give is valid. This email contains a link which you click on to confirm your registration.

I may have entered the wrong email address
Just send an email to the webmaster with the correct information. Please don't register again.

The link in my Verification Email doesn't work
The link you receive is quite long. Some email programs (dependent on their settings) may 'wrap' part of this link onto a new line, creating an invalid link.
The way round this is to first copy the highlighted link into your web browser (usually you can right click on it and select 'copy link' or similar), then go back to the email, highlight (select) the rest of the line and copy and paste this to the end of the link in your browser.

I've registered on the site, but not received the verification email.
Unfortunately emails do sometimes get delayed or lost (and some ISPs appear to just throw them away without telling anyone, or reject them because they seem unable to tell the difference between a legitimate email and spam. AOL are particularly bad at this, and Hotmail are also a problem.) If you don't receive a verification email within a day or so of registering, send an email to the webmaster.

I've responded to the verification email, but I can't see everything I expect to
If you are a GSC member, wait a couple of days after responding, and it may well be sorted. Otherwise send an email to the webmaster.

I've entered something wrong - can I change it?
You can change anything (apart from your login name) later - just go to the 'Settings' or 'Profile' menu options. You can also enter additional information about yourself if you want, although there's no obligation to do so.

I want to set up an email account to use with this website
There are plenty of email providers, both paid for and free, out there; however some seem to cause more problems than others. AOL are a particular problem, frequently discarding legitimate email without telling anyone. Hotmail appear to have started suffering from the same problem. Yahoo seems to be OK at the moment.
